Final Restoration Walkthrough: What Homeowners Should Expect

A final walkthrough should connect the work you can see with the scope you approved. Schedule it with someone who can explain the completed repairs and record outstanding items. It complements required inspections and specialist records; it does not replace them.

Bring the agreed documents

Use the latest scope, approved changes, finish selections, and any earlier punch list. Review each affected room or unit, noting omitted items, damaged finishes, product differences, and work that needs correction. Do not operate a restricted system simply to check it during the visit.

Create a usable punch list

  • Identify the location, issue, agreed action, and responsible party.
  • Record the target follow-up and how completion will be confirmed.
  • Distinguish incomplete work from a new owner request.

Collect the closeout record

Ask for applicable inspection approvals, specialist completion documents, product information, warranties, and maintenance instructions. Review any remaining payment or acceptance terms in the contract before signing. For occupied communities, confirm how management and residents should report a remaining problem.
