How Long Does Structural Drying Take After a Water Event?

There is no reliable drying duration for every water loss. Ask the mitigation provider what materials are being monitored, what goals apply, and when the next review will occur. Those answers are more useful than an unsupported completion date.

Interior reconstruction with exposed framing and protected floors

Ask what is controlling progress

The plan may need to address different materials, concealed layers, contamination concerns, or continuing water entry. Have the provider identify the current limiting condition and what it will do if readings stop improving.

Request a meaningful progress update

  • Which measured locations have reached the project’s goals?
  • Which locations still need work or cannot yet be assessed?
  • Has the equipment, access plan, or material-removal scope changed?

Plan reconstruction around the handoff

Ask for a written completion summary before scheduling work that covers affected materials. If only part of a property is ready, name that area precisely. A room that feels comfortable and an equipment pickup date are not substitutes for the underlying material assessment.
