How Relative Humidity Affects Structural Drying Timelines

Relative humidity describes how close air is to saturation at its current temperature. It can change when temperature changes even if the amount of water vapor does not. A falling room-humidity percentage alone does not prove that wet building materials have dried.

Ask for paired air and material records

Have the mitigation provider explain the temperature and humidity readings alongside readings from the affected materials. Outdoor air, openings, and occupied areas may be relevant to its plan; opening windows should be a provider decision rather than an assumption that outside air will help.

Questions when progress slows

  • Are new moisture sources or air leaks affecting this area?
  • Do material readings support the improvement shown in the room air?
  • What change is proposed, and when will its result be checked?

Use conditions rather than seasonal predictions

North Texas weather provides context, but a season does not determine one home’s drying schedule. Ask for the actual measured conditions and the remaining work. Keep HVAC adjustments and equipment changes with the responsible provider.
