Understand what was measured
EPA describes meters that use probes or surface contact to assess building materials. Ask whether a reported value is a material moisture percentage or a comparative scale, and whether the device and method are suitable for the material and depth being evaluated.
Look for a repeatable map
- Can each reading be located on a sketch or labeled photograph?
- Were similar materials used for the stated comparison?
- Which cavities or layers were inaccessible and still need assessment?
Connect the result to the next step
A meter helps answer a moisture question; it does not establish the water’s contamination level, structural capacity, or electrical safety. Ask the specialist to explain how the readings support retention, further investigation, or readiness for the next construction activity.
