Why Drying Equipment Placement Matters as Much as Equipment Count

An equipment count does not show whether the affected materials are being addressed. Ask the mitigation provider to explain the area each unit serves and how it will check results. Rooms, contents, barriers, and access restrictions all need to be considered in that explanation.

Ask for the placement rationale

Have the provider connect its layout to the material assessment and its air-management plan. Request a sketch or labeled photographs showing initial positions. The plan should also account for safe electrical supply, clear exits, and any contamination controls.

Use readings to discuss adjustments

  • Which measurement locations are improving, and which are not?
  • What change in position, access, or equipment is being proposed?
  • How will the provider document the result of that change?

Keep occupants from having to improvise

If equipment blocks essential access, creates an operating problem, or stops, contact the provider. Agree in advance on a contact and response arrangement. Do not move units, defeat barriers, or change ventilation yourself; record interruptions so the technical and billing records remain accurate.
