Construction Guidance

Jobsite Safety Expectations for Owners and Occupants

Owners and occupants need a clear way to interact with an active jobsite. Agree on the property rules and reporting contacts at kickoff, then update them as work zones change.

Cover the property interface at kickoff

  • Work-zone boundaries, approved entrances, and delivery routes.
  • Separation of occupied areas from construction activities.
  • Visitor check-in, escorts, and any site-specific protective equipment.
  • Known building hazards and the process for sharing new information.
  • Emergency contacts, assembly instructions, and shutdown approval contacts.

Make changes visible

When construction moves, update barriers, signs, access instructions, and occupant notices together. Have a named property contact review proposed route or operating changes with the site supervisor.

Report concerns through a defined channel

Tell staff how to report a damaged barrier, unexpected dust, blocked access, or an unplanned shutdown. Keep people clear of the affected area while the responsible team evaluates it. Call emergency services for an immediate emergency.
