How a TPO roof works
The TPO membrane forms the roof’s weather surface. Heat-welded seams join adjoining sheets, while separate details connect the membrane to roof edges, walls, pipes and equipment curbs.
The membrane is part of an assembly. Deck condition, insulation, attachment and drainage must be considered together; choosing a membrane thickness alone leaves important parts of the roof undecided.
Repair an existing roof or plan replacement
A damaged area or failed detail may be repairable when the surrounding roof can accept a compatible repair. Repeated leaks or more extensive deterioration can require investigation of the underlying materials and a larger replacement scope.
For new roofing, the proposal should identify the TPO product, what existing material will be removed or retained, and the work around drains and equipment. Compare these items with the same assumptions used for other roof-system options.
Plan installation and future access
Coordinate material staging and roof work with the building’s operating hours and rooftop equipment service. Equipment routes and any future penetrations should be considered before the roof details are finalized.
Review the specified manufacturer’s installation and maintenance instructions and the written warranty offered for the project. Any required installer eligibility should be confirmed for that exact system.
